DATA GAINS
Exhibited at the Fine Arts Major (FAM) Graduate Show 2025. Records of biometric data from years of physical training are reappropriated into moving generative sketches, machines, and interactive installations. These works were displayed around the walls of the gallery to evoke a feeling of being watched, becoming a sensory experience for the viewer. The works expose the paradox of body surveillance and datafication through fitness tracking devices. A series of biometric sketches translates a specific configuration of physiological data into visual forms. In each sketch, heart rate variability determines line thickness. Intensity, speed and distance influence spatial density. Furthermore, strain, recovery and sleep are expressed through chromatic code. Green eyes for recovery, red for strain and black for sleep. These ‘eyes’ operate as a conceptual motif, representing the gaze of surveillance, the body watching itself while being watched by capitalist systems.
